Happy 6th Birthday, Just A Little Further!
/We interrupt our Thames Path/London blog posts to celebrate JALF’s 6th birthday … six years of regular blog posting and sharing our adventures, misadventures and lives with readers all around the world. Our first JALF blog post was on October 12th, 2012 … Columbus Day, an appropriate day, we thought, to begin a new blogging adventure. Here are some of the highlights of Octobers for the past six years that you might remember or may have missed. Just click on a picture and voilá … there’s a blog blast from the past.
2012 - We were in Tasmania in 2012 when our niece, Gentry, launched JALF and posted our first blog on Columbus Day. We were aboard Nine of Cups and moored in Kettering. Here’s a sample of our October blogs from way back in 2012.
2013 - October 2013 found us back in the USA for a visit. Autumn is the best time of year in New England and we did several road trips including one to Cape Ann and another viewing foliage and covered bridges in Vermont.
2014 - In the autumn of 2014, which was actually springtime for us in the southern hemisphere, we were crossing the Indian Ocean with a stop at the Cocos Keeling Islands for a week and then on to the French island of Rodrigues, home of giant tortoises.
2015 - Sailing across the Atlantic takes quite awhile and most of October 2015 was spent at sea en route from Africa to French Guiana. Enjoy an ‘at-sea blog’ and then join us as we visit the infamous French prison camp in St. Laurent du Maroni.
2016 - We had finished our world adventure and Nine of Cups was moored in Chesapeake, VA. David’s brother, Paul, joined us for a few weeks as we sailed up the Potomac River and spent time in Washington, DC, then left Cups for a few months as we drove back with Paul to Las Vegas. Before leaving Cups, we winterized her … something we’d never had to do before.
2017 - In July of 2017, we purchased Blue, our Ford Transit van, with thoughts of upfitting him and perhaps ending our sailing adventures and beginning some new and different adventures. By October, David had begun the upfit and we wondered if Blue would ever be the ‘home’ that Nine of Cups had been.
Well, there you have it … six years of Just A Little Further and still lots to share and many more adventures on the horizon. We’ll continue with Exploring London next time.
